Operations | Manufacturing: Aloe Vera Drinks

There are so many fusion of flavours that can be created with the Aloe Vera beverage. In addition, we can have these drinks with and without pulp and, to stretch it a bit further, fermented into an alcoholic beverage.

The main aim in developing these products is to give the consumer more options while providing health and pleasure. There are some entrepreneurs who have already gone ahead developing teas from a number of herbs that grow wild in the country. A lot of these herbs have been used in Jamaican folk medicine for years but has yet to get traction mainstream. It is my purpose to bring products to the world that will make consumers aware of the benefits that can be had from these herbs in a pleasing manner.

I've already named the 74,000 sq. ft. garden after my grandmother, Edna Outar, by calling it Edna's Garden. I may give the company that name. However, anything that is produced by the company that will go on the shelves of fridges around the world must have a catchy Jamaican name. So far, I think Fyujan, which is a Patois translation for how a Jamaican would pronounce the word, Fusion. Both the pulp and pulp-free beverage would have the following flavours:

  1. Honey + Lime + Guinea Hen Weed + Aloe Vera (+Sweetener) = Irie
  2. Guava + Passion + Bissy + Aloe Vera (+Sweetener) = Claat
  3. Orange + Moringa + Cane Juice + Aloe Vera (+Sweetener) = Rootz
  4. Melon + Cucumber + Peppermint + Lime + Aloe Vera (+Sweetener) = Kool
  5. Mango + Soursop Leaf + Lime + Aloe Vera (+Sweetener) = Rhaatid
  6. Sorrel + Ginger + Lime + Aloe Vera (+Sweetener) = Fyah
  7. Banana + Cerasee + Tamarind + Aloe Vera (+Sweetener) = Faysti

In each of the flavours above, I have put in a herb that is of medicinal value to the consumer while using fruits to enhance the flavour. So the above flavours would be for drinks with and without pulp. Could a fusion with coffee be considered? All beverages will have 100 ml (7 tbsp.) Aloe Vera Pulp, Citric Acid and Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) in them.

  • 1 Lemon

Tropical Escape with Aloe

  • 1 tbsp of Aloe Vera Gel
  • 1 Carrot
  • 1 Green Apple
  • 1-2 cups of Pineapple
  • 2 tbsp Coconut Milk

Milestones

  1. Getting the winning formula

Settle on the right formula for each flavour. Each flavour must have an attractive taste. Given that Jamaican herbs will in the drinks, the dosage limits must be known to be put on the label of the bottles, if necessary.

  2. Pitch the pilot

The pilot project will not launch all flavours in the same quantity. The flavours that are expected to get the most demand will be produced in greater quantities.

  3. Survey the market

The market must be surveyed to see the feedback each flavour receives from the consumer.

Operations | Structure: Soil Management

One of the most important foundation component of agriculture is the soil. The soil has three main purpose: retain water for the plants, provide nutrients to the plant and give physical support to the plant. Soil contains many minerals in it that is vital for plant growth. Soils differ in different regions because it contains one type of mineral more than other soil in other regions. This kind of mineral can come from volcanic activity as well as weathering activity. Soil has layers (or horizons). At the very top, humus can be found which is rich in organic matter (usually decomposing plant and animal matter). As we go deeper below the surface, the soil particles become bigger until we hit rocks (the parent material of soils). Soil is made up of sand, silt and clay. All sand, silt and clay are not the same. Sand is bigger in (particle) size than silt and silt is bigger in (particle) size than clay. The perfect soil for agriculture is said to be 40% sand, 40% silt and 20% clay, which is...
